The CPD Programme

We’ve created a multifaceted CPD programme consisting of specially designed attendance days on key clinical and non-clinical topic, local evening talks and an online course in a topic of the graduates choice. The programme provides the graduate with over 40 hours of great CPD, in addition to the 35 hours that can be logged by completing the PDP.

The CPD days listed below are for the 2018 intake. We are excited to be adding optional Farm and Equine CPD days to the programme in time for our 2019 intake, in order to make the scheme equally suitable for vets in all sectors.

Emergency and Critical Care day

October (date for 2019 TBC).

Location: Alexandra House, Whittingham Dr, Wroughton, Swindon SN4 0QJ

The day will be run by Aoife O’Sullivan MVB CertAVP(ECC) MRCVS, who has over 10 years experience working as an emergency vet and will be a combination of lectures and small group teaching practicals.

Consulting and Communication Skills

February (Date for 2020 TBC).

Nothing is more important to first opinion veterinary practice than communication and consultation skills. A day of lectures and seminars focussing on these important areas aims to equip our graduates with the skills needed to navigate the ten-minute consultation with ease. This day is kindly being run for use by training leaders in this field, Vet Dynamics.

PDP and Career Development Planning

Date and Location: 1st April 2019, CPD Solutions training centre, B80 7EY

This is an interactive workshop focused on the Professional Development Phase and setting goals for their second year in practice. We want to ensure that the graduates gain as much from the PDP as possible but the day will also focus on career development plans for the year ahead, to give graduates the skills needed to build fulfilling and sustainable careers long after the scheme officially ends.

We’ve added a dental day!

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve added a dental CPD day for our current new graduates which will be taught by Matthew Oxford BVM&S GPCert(SAS) MRCVS. The day will include extraction practicals on cadavers.

2nd April, CPD Solutions Training Centre, B807EY

Local CPD Talks

The scheme also includes local CPD talks for our graduates, usually run in conjunction with the BVA Young Vet Network. These regular meet-ups will cover a range of clinical and non-clinical topics but will crucially also give the graduates an opportunity to get to know other new graduates living locally.

Online “Mini-Series” from CPD Solutions

Graduates are also able to do an online mini-series with CPD Solutions. These include 8 hours of CPD and there is a huge range of topics for the graduate to choose from. The online learning can be completed at any time through the year.
