We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and energetic small animal vet to join our expanding independent mixed practice.   Our goal is to provide a friendly and caring professional service.  If these are also your goals, then please get in touch.

Located in Pembrokeshire, surrounded by beautiful beaches, country walks and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, we are very much a rural practice.  Our man small animal surgery is based in Haverfordwest, the county town, with branches at Fishguard and St Davids. The Fishguard surgery is open 5 days a week and houses our aquatic treadmill for hydrotherapy, as well as having facilities for consulting and minor ops.

Our small animal client base does have a bias towards dogs, but we see plenty of cats, small furries and the occasional exotic and bird.

Your main work would include routine consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures.  We aim to give all small animal vets a share of the surgical workload. We perform most surgical procedures in-house, with the more complex ops undertaken by our RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery.  We encourage and fund CPD and the development of clinical interests. Currently 2 vets are studying towards certificates, and one towards a behavioural qualification.  For a new graduate we offer the GradstoVets Programme, which includes coaching, a mentor and your first year’s CPD.

At our main small animal surgery in Haverfordwest we have all the usual equipment that goes with providing a first class small animal service.

We cover our own out-of-hours work, and the successful candidate will be bring our number in the rota to 7.  The rota is spread equally between all vets, with 2 vets covering Saturday morning surgery.  Our leave allowance is 33 days per year (including bank holidays).  Our vets work a 4.5 day week in general, with a combination of early finishes (1pm once a week), standard finishes (5pm) and later finishes (7pm on your night on-call).  Included in the employment will be your RCVS fees, BVA and VDS memberships.

We are a friendly and experienced team of vets and staff who will be able to provide you with the support you need to develop your skills whilst working in this busy practice, allowing you some choice in your clinical pathway.

If you would enjoy being a part of our team, and would like to know more, please contact carolinegardner@oakvetgroup.co.uk for more information.
